Chris Rock not pressing charges against Will Smith after Oscars slap

The whole world is talking about Oscars 2022, but not by the winners of the most important awards in the film industry. The scandal of the slap that Will Smith he tipped Chris Rock on stage, after the inappropriate comment of the conductor of the ceremony for the appearance of Jada Pinkett-Smith, made headlines all over the world’s news media. Undoubtedly, we are faced with a fact that will be talked about for years.

But beyond the discussion that was generated around Chris Rock’s original comment and Will Smith’s subsequent reaction, the truth is that there was an act of physical assault in front of millions of people in worldwide. For this reason, much of the post-ceremony attention focused on whether there would be any immediate legal consequences. However, the slapped comedian decided not to file a complaint against his attacker.

The novelty was confirmed by CNN after contacting the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD). As confirmed by the Californian police authorities, Chris Rock has decided not to sue Will Smith. However, the door has been left open for the event to be officially reported later, if deemed necessary.

“Los Angeles Police Department investigative entities are aware of an incident between two people at the Academy Awards. The incident involved one individual slapping another. The individual involved declined to file a report. If the party involved wants a police report at a later date, LAPD will be available to complete an investigation report.”
