‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ was going to have Darth Maul as the main villain

Over the past few weeks, we have learned many details about Obi Wan Kenobithe long-awaited Disney Plus original series coming out next May 25. We know for example that Darth Vader and the Inquisitors will be the bad guys trying to counter the legendary Jedi Master. However, Lucasfilm’s original plan was not to have the aforementioned Sith presence, but with a completely different antagonist: Darth Maul.

According to information from The Hollywood Reporter, the first scenario Obi Wan Kenobi had Darth Maul as the main villain. In fact, Ray Park, who played him in Star Wars: Episode I: The Phantom Menace, he was ready to reprise his role. So… why did they throw it away?

It is well known that the story of Obi Wan Kenobi experienced significant changes throughout its development. The biggest of these happened in early 2020, which caused the show to go on indefinite hiatus.

Anakin Skywalker and Padmé Amidala’s son was in danger because Darth Maul had gone looking for him.

This proposal was a bit like The Mandalorian, where we now see Din Djarin preventing Grogu from being kidnapped by the remaining forces of the Empire. Throughout its two seasons, and even in some episodes of boba fett bookbuilt a parent-child relationship which was hugely successful on Disney Plus.
