Judging by the dates users started complaining about not working push notifications from Sberbank Online, this happened shortly after the app was removed from the Russian App Store. Apparently, Apple not only banned its distribution through its catalog, but also disconnected it from the cloud service for sending alerts, which is why users started missing important events related to their accounts.

How to connect SMS notifications from Sberbank

As you can see, it is no longer possible to enable push notifications in Sberbank Online

Not everyone knows – and most of them, in general, do not need – what kind of mailing push notifications on iOS responds a special service created by Apple. It is called Apple push notification service and is responsible for delivering notifications from third-party apps to user devices. And since it is up to the company itself, it is in its power to decide which programs can send notifications and which cannot.

At first, users didn’t realize that Apple was involved and tried every way they could resend notifications from Sberbank Online. However, no settings helped resume the notification mechanism. Then some of our readers decided to complain to the technical support service. All in all, the app is the same bank product as many others, so it should work just fine, even though it’s free.

However, support said that push-notifications from Sberbank will no longer come due to lack of technical capacity. As a result, notifications about all account changes will now be sent via SMS. If you had already connected them before, you don’t have to change anything. Messages will be rebuilt automatically. And if not, the connection will not take much time.

  • Launch Sberbank Online on iPhone;
  • Turn on the scanner and scan the QR code;

Scan the QR code and accept an SMS notification for 60 rubles per month

  • Read the information on the screen;
  • Confirm the SMS notification connection.

SMS alerts from Sberbank – paid. This service costs 60 rubles per month. It seems a bit. But, firstly, more than 700 rubles run per year. And, second, push notifications stopped working through no fault of the users. Therefore, in my opinion, it would be more honest for Sberbank to do Free SMS Alert, if there is no other way to receive information about changes to the account. Also, this bank itself cannot send notifications to users in the usual way.

Web apps on iOS are allowed to send push notifications, but for some reason banks aren’t using this opportunity yet

It is obvious that similar problems can certainly be observed with customers of other banks who have been subject to blocking sanctions. Today there are 6 of them, with the exception of Sberbank, the characteristic feature of which is app removed from app store and Google Play. Here they are:

  • VTB
  • Opening
  • Sovcombank (Halva)
  • Promsviazbank
  • Novikombank
  • Alfa Bank

I don’t have the ability to verify all apps, but Alfa bank push specifically does not send, as well as Sovcombank. Therefore, it is highly likely that other clients will not work the same way. Apple simply closed their access to the notification service. This means that now for account holders in these banks, the only way to receive reports on their account is through good old text messages, which are mostly chargeable.
