The ‘brain’ of LAPSUS$ would be a 16-year-old teenager

US $ has become the hacker group of the moment, following its recent attacks on some of the world’s largest companies. However, the story would have taken an unexpected turn with the apparent identification of its leader, who would be a 16-year-old from Oxford, England.

Yes, you read that right. NVIDIA, Samsung, Okta and Microsoft, among others, were allegedly hacked by hackers commissioned by a minor who lives with his mother. The novelty was known thanks to a report by Bloombergwhich mentions that the specialists would have identified seven accounts linked to LAPSUS$.

Right from the start, the situation leaves us with some peculiar edges. And not just because a teenager is said to be the “mastermind” behind the recent wave of high-profile cyberattacks; but also because when hackers discovered his roots were said to be in Latin America. Moreover, the attack on Mercado Libre seemed to ratify the group’s ties to the region, given that said company was founded in Argentina.

However, the revelation of the apparent English leader would give a greater degree of complexity to the origin of the hackers. In any case, the link with South America is not excluded, far from it. According to the researchers, another LAPSUS$ member identified is a teenager from Brazil.

A teenage hacker running LAPSUS$?

For logical reasons, the report does not mention the true identity of the teenager who would have been identified as the leader of LAPSUS$. However, this indicates that his online aliases would be White and breach of base. He also mentions that cybersecurity experts believe that the young man in question is indeed the mastermind of the group of hackers, although they could not have connected it to all the attacks perpetrated by the same.
